Since launch day in January, the most consistent request in our support inbox, our Discord, and our Twitter replies has been four words: "When are EU servers?" Today, the answer is now. Our Frankfurt, Germany data centre is live, and European players can select it at checkout immediately. Here's everything you need to know.

The Frankfurt Data Centre

We spent three months evaluating potential EU locations. Frankfurt was the clear winner for three reasons:

  • DE-CIX connectivity — Frankfurt hosts DE-CIX, the world's largest internet exchange by traffic volume. Connecting to it gives us extraordinarily low-latency peering to virtually every major European ISP. A packet from our Frankfurt node to a player in London travels through perhaps two network hops.
  • Central European geography — Frankfurt sits in the middle of the continent. It's the lowest-average-latency single location for simultaneous players across the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain.
  • Tier III certification — the facility has redundant power, cooling, and network uplinks. 99.982% uptime guarantee from the data centre itself, before our own software redundancy layers.

The hardware at the Frankfurt node is identical to our US locations — NVMe SSD storage, the same DDoS mitigation system, the same AMP control panel version.

The Latency Difference: Real Numbers

Latency affects how a game feels more than any other network metric. At 15ms ping, movement feels instant. At 120ms, there's a perceptible delay between pressing a key and seeing the result. In fast-paced games like Rust, that 100ms gap is the difference between winning and losing a gunfight.

Here are measured round-trip times from major European cities to our nodes:

CityUS East (NYC)US West (LA)FrankfurtImprovement
London, UK~108ms~165ms~14ms87% reduction
Paris, France~102ms~160ms~11ms89% reduction
Berlin, Germany~118ms~175ms~7ms94% reduction
Amsterdam, Netherlands~105ms~168ms~9ms91% reduction
Warsaw, Poland~132ms~192ms~22ms83% reduction
Madrid, Spain~115ms~170ms~29ms75% reduction
Stockholm, Sweden~125ms~190ms~24ms81% reduction
✅ What these numbers mean in practice Below 20ms: undetectable latency — the game feels local. 20–50ms: excellent for all game types. 50–100ms: fine for most games. Above 100ms: noticeable delay, affects competitive play.

How to Select the EU Location

Selecting Frankfurt at checkout takes a single click:

1

Go to the Pricing Page

Visit octohost.net/pricing and choose your plan (Small, Medium, or Large).

2

Select Server Location at Checkout

During checkout you'll see a Server Location dropdown with three options: US East (New York), US West (Los Angeles), and EU (Frankfurt). Select EU (Frankfurt).

3

Complete Your Order

Finish checkout as normal. Your server will be provisioned on the Frankfurt node within 3–5 minutes and you'll receive a European IP address in the confirmation email.

Migrating an Existing Server to EU

If you already have a server on a US node and want to move it to Frankfurt, we can migrate it for you. The process:

  • Open a support ticket at octohost.net/support or email [email protected]
  • Tell us your server ID (found in the Billing Portal) and that you'd like to migrate to EU Frankfurt
  • We'll schedule the migration during off-peak hours (typically between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM local time)
  • Your game data, world files, mods, AMP configuration, and server settings all transfer with you
  • Downtime is typically under 15 minutes
  • Your server gets a new EU IP address after migration

No Price Premium for EU

We made a deliberate decision not to charge a premium for European servers. All plans are available in Frankfurt at exactly the same prices as US servers:

PlanMonthly (US)Monthly (EU)Weekly (US)Weekly (EU)
Small (2 GB)$5.99$5.99$3.49$3.49
Medium (4 GB)$9.99$9.99$5.99$5.99
Large (8 GB)$19.99$19.99$11.99$11.99

European hosting costs us more operationally, but we believe the pricing should reflect the value you receive, not our cost structure. Same price, same features, better ping for EU players.

All Games Available on EU Node

Every game in the Octohost library is available on the Frankfurt node:

  • Minecraft (vanilla, Paper, Forge, Fabric)
  • Rust
  • Garry's Mod
  • ARMA 3
  • Team Fortress 2
  • ARK: Survival Evolved

The AMP control panel, dedicated IP, DDoS protection, unlimited SSD, and all other features are identical across all locations.

GDPR and European Data Privacy

For European customers, a server in Frankfurt means your game data is physically located within the EU. This is relevant for communities that handle player data — usernames, IPs, inventory data stored in databases — under GDPR requirements. EU data stays in the EU on the Frankfurt node.

Our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply equally across all regions.

What's Next: More Regions

Frankfurt is our third location. Based on customer requests, we're actively scoping the following regions for future expansion:

  • Singapore — Southeast Asia and Oceania coverage
  • Sydney, Australia — Australian and New Zealand players
  • São Paulo, Brazil — South American coverage
  • Tokyo, Japan — East Asia and Japanese gaming communities

We'll announce new locations in our Discord and on the blog before they go live. If a specific region is important to you, drop a message in Discord — player demand is the primary driver of our expansion roadmap.
